Biography

JANA WOOD

My art practice is process-driven, engaging with abstract methodologies in paint.  My subject matter is primarily the encounter in nature, observing fragility and the passing of time, and meandering within the unknown (emotionally, spiritually and physically)  Over the last few years I have been focused on developing a deeper connection to the Port Waikato area where my studio is now based.  My whakapapa links back to the Waikato through my Ngati Raukawa/Ngati Kikopiri ancestry. Ongoing post-graduate research is into NZ’s Colonial and Ecological history, and the history of representation in landscape painting.
